With all the news about the Coronavirus, there are questions about the effectiveness of air ionizers or ozone generators in preventing virus infection.
I’m not a medical professional or an expert on viruses. Much like the rest of you I am reading information provided by the CDC and other reliable sources for information on prevention from COVID-19. I’m keeping an eye on the statistics on Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering and following the guidelines for creating a safe work environment for my employees and customers (more info on this to come) and taking steps at home to minimize contamination.
Air Ionizers and Ozone products are used throughout the medical industry and in schools and other large commercial spaces. Residential versions of the products are something we have installed for years. I’ve focused on the Reme-Halo and Aerus products because those are the ones we commonly install.
If there is concrete information related to the use of Air Quality products and their effectiveness I will update that information here and on social media. There are validated studies for similar viruses like SARS and the Institute of Virology has been testing for effectiveness on COVID-19 but the results have not yet been released.
Rather than to paraphrase or attempt to interpret information I am instead going to post excerpts with sources so that you can read the information for yourself. Our goal is to provide information so that you can make a decision about whether these products are something that you want to add to your toolbox to fight COVID-19 and other contaminants in your home.
REME HALO® and COVID-19
Source: TECHNICAL BULLETIN FROM RFG
Are test results available for RGF’s PHI-Cell® or REME HALO® on COVID-19?
We currently do not have testing specifically on the Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are evaluating testing options with partners in both U.S. and China. As there are a limited number of facilities capable of testing for this virus, their focus is on prioritizing testing as it relates directly to the recent outbreaks.
Is RGF’s PHI-Cell® and REME HALO® technology effective at reducing COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a member of the enveloped RNA coronavirus (subgenus sarbecovirus, Orthocoronavirinae) subfamily. While RGF® does not have testing specifically on COVID-19, we have validated test results showing 99+% reductions on similar viruses. These viruses, like COVID-19, are also ‘enveloped’ or protein jacketed virus types. If we can reduce thesevirus types, an assumption could be made that we would also be effective at reducing the current coronavirus at hand. Important to note that we make no medical claim
Does RGF® have products approved for use in hospitals and healthcare settings?

Ozone Can Be Used To Destroy The New Coronavirus And Disinfect Areas
Excerpt From Source : Thailand Medical news
As the coronavirus continues to evolve and become more virulent, there are many unanswered questions as there has been no proper clinical or scientific studies that have been conducted on it yet with regards to its properties etc as the 2019-nCoV coronavirus only made its maiden debut in December 2019.
In order to be safe, as we still do not really know how long these coronavirus can survive on surfaces, its best to disinfect areas that have lots of contact with people whether or not they are showing signs of having been infected or not.
One good way to do that is by deploying ozone gas.
Ozone gas has been proven to kill the SARS coronavirus and since the structure of the new 2019-nCoV coronavirus is almost identical to that of the SARS coronavirus, it is relatively safe to say that it will also work on the new coronavirus though it must be noted that there is no studies to date except one that is current ongoing in China at the Institute of Virology In Hubei with regards to this. Progress of that study has shown that it works and the study should be concluded by the end of this week and officially published in the journal Virology.
There are more than 17 scientific studies that show Ozone gas is able to destroy the SARS coronavirus.
Do Air Ionizers and Ozone Generators Stop Coronavirus?
Excerpt From Source: negativeionizers.net
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, some people have asked whether air ionizers or ozone generators could have a role in preventing virus infection.
It’s important first to follow the recommendations of the CDC and other medical authorities on prevention, such as regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and avoiding contact with people suffering from COVID-19.
The actions and effects of both negative ions on airborne viruses, and 03 (ozone) on viral contamination, have been well established in previous scientific studies though.
This article covers these actions and effects and how they may be beneficial in reducing your exposure to all viruses in certain situations.

What is IAQ and Why Is It important?
Indoor Air Quality (“IAQ”) is critical for good health. Most of us spend a lot of time indoors at work, at home, while running errands, or participating in activities & events where gases, chemicals and other pollutants can result in headaches, eye irritation, allergies and fatigue. Air Cleaners remove airborne particles, odors, gases, and volatile organic compounds. There has been extensive testing on their ability to reduce sick building syndrome, reduce the spread of illnesses, and use in hospital environments.
